About Mahakaleshwar Temple

The origins of the Mahakaleshwar Temple are shrouded in mystery, making it challenging to pinpoint its exact inception. Nevertheless, historical accounts suggest that it traces back to the prehistoric era. According to Puranas, the temple was initially established by Prajapita Brahma. An intriguing historical note reveals that in the 6th century BC, King Chanda Pradyota appointed Prince Kumarasena to oversee the maintenance of law and order within the precincts of the Mahakala temple. Adding to the historical tapestry, punch-marked coins from Ujjain dating back to the 4th-3rd century BC prominently feature the figure of Lord Shiva, further intertwining the temple’s legacy with the region’s rich history.

The Mahakaleshwar Temple finds mention in various ancient Indian poetic texts, portraying it as a splendid and grand structure. As described in these texts, the temple’s foundation and platform were crafted from stones, while its support came from sturdy wooden pillars. Notably, before the Gupta period, the absence of shikhara characterized temple architecture, with most roofs adopting a flat design. This architectural feature prompted Kalidasa, in his work Raghuvansam, to refer to the temple as ‘Niketana.’ The proximity of the king’s palace to the temple further adds to the historical allure of the site. In the early verses of Meghadutam (Purva Megha), Kalidasa provides a captivating depiction of the Mahakal temple, capturing its essence in the poetic narrative.

 The Chandisvara temple stands out as a distinctive testament to the art and architecture of its time. The magnificence of the main deity’s temple in this town is evident in its multi-storeyed, gold-plated palaces and buildings, showcasing superb artistic grandeur. Surrounding the temple are high ramparts connected to entry gates, creating a secure enclosure. As dusk falls, the vibrant rows of gleaming lamps illuminate the temple complex, adding a touch of enchantment to the surroundings.

कई प्राचीन भारतीय काव्य ग्रंथों में महाकाल मंदिर का उल्लेख होता है। इन ग्रंथों के अनुसार, यह मंदिर अत्यंत भव्य और शानदार था। इसका निर्माण पत्थरों से किया गया था और इसकी नींव और चौबूतरा भी पत्थरों से बनाया गया था। मंदिर के स्तंभ लकड़ी के थे और गुप्त काल से पहले इसमें कोई शिखर नहीं था। मंदिरों की छतें अधिकांशत: सपाट थीं। इसी कारण, रघुवंशम में कालिदास ने इस मंदिर को ‘निकेतन’ कहा। राजा का महल मंदिर के परिसर में स्थित था। मेघदूतम (पूर्व मेघ) के आरंभिक भाग में, कालिदास ने महाकाल मंदिर का एक मोहक विवरण प्रस्तुत किया है।

ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि यह चंडीश्वर मंदिर तत्कालीन कला और वास्तुकला का एक अद्वितीय उदाहरण था। इससे हमे यह अंदाजा हो सकता है कि उस शहर के मुख्य देवता का मंदिर कितना शानदार था, जिसमें बहुमंजिला सोना मढ़वाया महल और इमारतें, साथ ही एक शानदार कलात्मक भव्यता से सजीव था। मंदिर का प्रवेश द्वार ऊंची प्राचीरों से घिरा हुआ था, जो सांझ के समय चमकते हुए दीपों की पंक्तियों से मंदिर-परिसर को प्रकाशित करती थीं।

When does it happen?

Getting Ready:

First, the temple priests and helpers get ready for the Aarti. They collect sacred ash, also known as “Vibhuti,” from the special fire (dhuni) that continuously burns in the temple.

चिंतामण मंदिर की पौराणिक कथा (Chintaman Temple Story, Ujjain)

चिंतामण मंदिर की पौराणिक कथा भक्तों के लिए बेहद ही खास है। इस पवित्र मंदिर को लेकर दो मान्यताएं हैं। पहली- कहा जाता है कि इस पवित्र मंदिर के निर्माण के लिए गणेश भगवान स्वयं पृथ्वी पर आए थे।

दूसरी मान्यता- धार्मिक मान्यता के अनुसार चिंतामण गणेश मंदिर की स्थापना भगवान राम ने की थी। लोककथा के अनुसार भगवान राम में इस मंदिर की स्थापना वनवास के दौरान की थी।

रामघाट उज्जैन शहर का प्रमुख धार्मिक स्थल है। रामघाट उज्जैन (Ramghat Ujjain) शहर में महाकाल मंदिर से करीब 1 किलोमीटर दूर होगा। यह घाट बहुत सुंदर है। यह घाट शिप्रा नदी के किनारे बना हुआ है। इस घाट के किनारे बहुत सारे प्राचीन मंदिर बने हुए हैं। यहां पर आकर बहुत अच्छा लगता है। यहां पर, जो भी लोग आते हैं। वह शिप्रा नदी में स्नान जरूर करते हैं। यहां पर बहुत सारे लोग मछलियों को दाना डालते हैं। यहां पर बोटिंग का मजा लेते हैं। घाट के किनारे गुरु नानक साहब जी का गुरुद्वारा भी देखने के लिए मिलता है। यह गुरुद्वारा रामघाट के दूसरे तरफ है। घाट के दूसरे तरफ जाने के लिए पुल बना हुआ है, जिससे आप आसानी से जा सकते हैं और दूसरी तरफ में घाट में भी घूम सकते हैं।

This ghat is very beautiful and is situated on the banks of the Shipra River. There are many ancient temples along the banks of this ghat, making it a delightful place to visit. Gopal Mandir also called as Dwarkadhish temple is the second largest temple of Ujjain after Mahakaleshwar and is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Gopal Mandir, Ujjain is situated in the middle of the big market square (Bada Bazar Chauraha). The temple is dedicated to the blue god Krishna. Krishna is the divine herdsman and the lover of milkmaids. Reaching the temple is not very difficult as Ujjain is well connected to Indore, Bhopal, Manali and Kota by bus and well networked with Delhi, Bhopal, Jhansi, Agra, Indore, Jabalpur and Bilaspur by train. मध्य प्रदेश के उज्जैन में स्थित महर्षि सांदीपनि का आश्रम (Sandipani Ashram Ujjain) ऋषि सांदीपनि की वह तपोभूमी है जिसको द्वापर युग के समय से सारी दुनिया में धर्म, अध्यात्म और वैदिक शिक्षा प्राप्त करने के लिए सबसे उत्तम स्थान माना जाता आ रहा है। महर्षि सांदीपनि का यह आश्रम वही तपोभूमि और शिक्षास्थली है जिसका निर्माण द्वापर युग में महर्षि सांदीपनि ने वेद, पुराण, शास्त्र, धर्म और नैतिक शिक्षा के लिए करवाया था। महाभारत, श्रीमद्भागवत, ब्रह्मपुराण तथा अग्निपुराण जैसे महान ग्रंथों में भी सांदीपनि की इस विद्यास्थली या आश्रम का उल्लेख मिलता है।

Maharishi Sandipani was an acharya whose life is closely associated with that of Lord Krishna. In fact, Maharishi Sandipani was the tutor of Krishna and Balaram. The brothers, along with their friend Sudama, went to study at Guru Sandipani’s ashram. The two picked up their studies so fast that the sage thought he was educating the sun and the moon, legend has it.

Chaubis Khamba Temple

महाकाल वन के मुख्य प्रवेश द्वार पर विराजित माता महामाया और माता महालाया चौबीस खंभा माता मंदिर के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं। यहां पर मंदिर के भीतर 24 काले पत्थरों के खंभे हैं, इसीलिए इसे 24 खंभा माता मंदिर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। यह उज्जैन नगर में प्रवेश करने का प्राचीन द्वार हुआ करता था। पहले इसके आसपास परकोटा हुआ करता था। तंत्र साधना के लिए प्रसिद्ध उज्जैन या प्राचीन अवंतिका के चारों द्वार पर भैरव तथा देवी विराजित हैं, जो आपदा-विपदा से नगर की रक्षा करते हैं। चौबीस खंभा माता भी उनमें से एक हैं। यह मंदिर करीब 1000 साल पुराना है। नगर की सीमाओं पर स्थित इन देवी मंदिरों में राजा विक्रमादित्य के समय से नगर की सुरक्षा के लिए पूजन और मदिरा चढ़ाए जाने की परंपरा चली आ रही है।
